RECONNECT

/ Helping people discover their Unique Selves through dance /

/ Dance has been used as a vehicle for communication, celebration and connection for people across the globe since we could move. It’s also an art form that can be overlooked. Cultures across the globe have used dance to resist colonisation, transmit storytelling, resist empires and celebrate forbidden sexuality.

This project works directly with individuals helping them connect to ancestral dance to feel more grounded, while working with artists across the globe to explore dance history through film and collaborative projects.

The Journey So Far

We aim to collaborate with dancers and artists from across the globe to build an understanding of their cultural dances, as well as how they all connect through shared movement, story and methodology.

  • We are a small collective of dancers, choreographers and filmmakers based in Melbourne, Australia brought together for our passion for the power of dance to empower everybody, from, every culture. If you feel passionate about it too - we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us via the contact page.

  • We have currently finished our pilot program funded by Merri-bek council that involves six dancers using research of their own ancestral dance history to ground themselves artistically and personally. The pilot also saw a free community event, as well as the production of small videos and this website.

We are looking for further funding to continue our work - to produce a documentary proof of concept and continue our work with communities and education/private sectors.
